Propeller Polishing

For propeller polishing we use hydraulic driven polishers fitted with 3M industrial diamond flexible discs of different density & Scotch Brite soft pads for the conditioning & finish thus attaining results of Rubert Scale grade “A”.

DIAMOND SUPER POLISHING

The New Underwater High Speed Diamond 10.000 RPM Propeller Polisher IP-12HSB uses a Patent – Pending low torque, High Speed, Hydraulic motor specially designed by Ippokampos for propeller polishing. Speed control allows the diver to adjust speed from 8.000 – 10.000 RPM for the most demanding commercial polishing jobs.

The polisher features a rotating, flexible discfitted with the finest DIAMOND polishingpads with grain sizes in the range of P150(normal standard) to P460 (Ippokamposstandard for merchant ships) and even P800(Ippokampos standard for Navy ships).

The finish obtained by Ippokampos is betterthan Rubert Gauge “A” or 0.35 micron Ra(CLA) (best grade on the Rubert Gauge “A”is 1.00 micron Ra (CLA)).

POLISHING

In comparison, polishers used by competitorscan best reach a finish of P150 and requireslonger polishing time to reach this grade. The high-grade finish reached by theIppokampos polisher delays fouling fora longer period than the coarser finish ofcompetitor’s polishers.

New propellers have a relative coarse surface, their efficiency can be improved, and cavitationwear avoided by the Ippokampos polishing quality. This is an important marketing feature. A fuel saving of 10 % on a newer ship has been reported to Ippokampos DIAMOND polishingof the ship’s propeller. The roughness of the propeller is measured with a Rubert Gauge before and after cleaningand polishing.
